Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at 7:46PM 'TRON' Director Remaking Disney's 'The Black Hole'
Always a favorite of my childhood, Disney's The Black Hole will be remade by a team consisting of TRON Legacy director and producer Joseph Kosinski and Sean Bailey and screenwriter Travis Beacham. The best part about this news is that the technology is so much better than it was in the late 1970s that this could actually be pretty damn good.

The Hollywood Reporter points out, I think appropriately, that this is one of the first projects undertaken by the new Rich Ross regime at the House of Mouse; Ross replaced the very artist-friendly Dick Cook this summer. It could be an interesting one to follow, in no small measure because Black Hole holds a place in Disney history as the first PG film the studio ever released.
It's also worthy of raised eyebrow because Ross put the clamps on another in-house remake, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, which was a project Bailey was set to produce. Is this an olive branch, perhaps?
You may not be familiar with Travis Beacham, but this could be right up his alley, based on his upcoming revamp of Clash of the Titans, which looks far better than I ever imagined. He'll have more science at his disposal in the new version, both because, well, there's more science about black holes available now, and because Disney is apparently pushing it that direction instead of just a creampuff PG-rated action movie with a black hole in the background.
Yeah, there are a lot of remakes and yeah, Disney is on of the worst offenders, but looking at how well the sequel to TRON appears to be progressing, I'm not going to be down on this one yet.

I always bring this movie up as one of my favorites as a child, but no one seems to know what I'm talking about. This movie is ripe for a remake!
I believed I was the only kid who liked this movie when it came out. I was 10...For some reason it always fascinated me..For its time a really beautiful pc of work using the most advanced old film techniques. Weather CGI can enhance it..who knows. Its great that there are no longer any limits to what can be created today but it really took a lot talent to pull this off in the late 70's. The spacehips, robots and Dr. Reinheart were the best.
I hope they make me think with wounder and shock! /awe!
It's a cool story with a lot of potential,I would dig seeing a front story of the mission, hope it has a dark Gothic feel, like batman had, but on per with the war of the world remake.
