Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 7:31AM First Poster for Nicolas Cage's 'Season of the Witch'
If you click on the image, you'll see a great big version of the new poster for Season of the Witch, the first of two Nic Cage movies in 2010 that...don't look too bad, really. Next summer he has The Sorcerer's Apprentice, and that one could be fun, and Season of the Witch will probably make the most money of any movie involving the Black Plague of the Middle Ages. Wouldn't take much, I'll grant you.

Cage and Ron Perlman team up to chaperon a witch suspected of unleashing the plague on Europe. They aren't trying to save her bacon, exactly. They just don't want her punished by every weary traveler on their way to deliver her to the proper authorities. Then they can kill her, I guess. Especially if she floats.
I hate to give this the benefit of the doubt, though. It's directed by Dominic Sena, and he doesn't make good movies. It never got better than Kalifornia, and that was his first film. And Cage and Perlman don't even attempt accents, even though every other character apparently recognizes that even if they can't approximate the way the language might have sounded 600 years ago, at least they'll use the standard English accents to level everything out. Not Cage and Perlman, though.
Season of the Witch opens on March 19th.
