Monday, December 14, 2009 at 1:08PM Gibson, DiCaprio to Make a Viking Epic
Mel Gibson has a couple new projects in the works. First, Production Weekly Tweeted this morning that he'll star in How I Spent My Summer Vacation for director Adrian Grunberg. I didn't expect Mad Mel to go back in front of the camera so soon, especially since he openly expressed how acting for the first time in years (in next spring's Edge of Darkness) wasn't all that satisfying.

The other news, from Variety, is bigger and potentially better: Gibson will direct Leonardo DiCaprio in an upcoming period piece. Given Mel's history with directing movies set in the distant past (Braveheart, Passion of the Christ, and Apocalypto were all good films, and each one was different), this seems like a great pairing. Throw in writer william Monahan, and it's no wonder producer Graham King said, "This will be an awe-inspiring story, created with some of the industry's finest cinematic talent, and I am just over
the moon to be making this film with Mel, Leo and Bill."
Here's the catch: It's a Viking movie. Wha?
When I first read that I was slightly concerned, but then I remembered how malleable Gibson is behind the camera, and I shouldn't really have any worries about Leo, although I haven't been sold by his most recent outings. But then I let it simmer for a while, and I actually have no problem with this. I guess I was just expecting something other than a Viking movie.
Apparently, Leo is a big fan of the Viking culture, or maybe that's just because Brett Favre plays for them now. Regardless, we're overdue for a terrific Viking movie, so hopefully this can fill the bill.

Wow this is a peculiar pairing, but very interesting as well...
Besides all the million of projects Leo has going on, I wonder when this will actually happen?
I agree Mel is talented behind the camera and doesnt get the credit he deserves most times...
-Iv always liked Mel he has this cool personality about him and this charm, glad to see he's back in the industry,I mean "the guys" outed him for a long time....
Well, Mel did a pretty good self-hatchet job. After Passion, everybody wanted to work with him, and Disney deserves a little credit for even giving Apocalypto the release it received just a few months after his Jew-hating rant/DUI.
Very much agree
dismey had signed a contract and ask for more money ot od its jpb!
there was no antisemitic rant, and no sugar tits.
several officersa t the station that were there that night certified that mel gibson never said that but that it was officer Mee that used to call his fellow gfemale officers for "sugar tits" so it was officer mee own making.. and when he lied about htat, then why not about the rest huh?
since he recieved lots of money form Harvey Levin, director of TMZ, who met him in perosn several times and phoned him several times,. Tmz is the tabloid that unleashed the fiuror by publicshing the fake report form officer mee, where he had writen the fake antisemitc rant on it and the faked sugar tits thing!
Juridicaly if a witnes lie about part of its testimony it question the entire testimony.
when its form apolice officer writing a police rapport, its even worse.
The alone witness was that officer mee, who recieved money form TMZ and first relased that report a week after the arrest, when nothing of the kind was writen in the origina, report that was at the station.
Maybe Mee maybe harvey thurst to get some good cookie points form a TMZ that was unknown and totaly discredited by all, the fact is that its first after long talks on th ephone between the 2 that this report suddenly was born and appeared in the media.
It was a scam and it stinks as such.
their excuse must have been "oh he is said ot be an antisemite with the passion of christ, so it doesnt matter. Let him pay.for that movie"...
I dont beleive anymore that Mel gisbon said that thign like "jew are cause of all war" its a fake.
and it soudns liek a fake to.
words that officer Mee tried o put in the mouth of Mle gibson, and jsut liek sugar tits, he ahd watched too many lethal weapon movies.. so that kind of stuff was easy for poeple to beelive in, witht hat image of mel they had as sergent martin Riggs.
alone problem here is that Mel is not martin >Riggs, and that he never said such a thing.
Officer Mee, did so all the time at that station!
We ned an investigation of TMZ.
Man, even if you have a point, ocean of love, it's impossible to read your comments. Spelling really helps an argument in a forum like this.
HAHAHA
Agreed....don't leave long posts from your cell...
Nice...I was thinking the same thing. Perhaps that was Mel defending himself in a drunken stupor. I hope I spelled "stupor" right!
