Monday, December 14, 2009 at 5:57PM New 'Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time' Footage
Jake Gyllenhaal, appearing none the worse for wear following his recent de-Reesing, showed up at the Video Game Awards on Spike over the weekend to show off a new montage of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Bits and pieces we've seen in the trailer, but most of it is new.

I do have a question, though: Isn't the Video Game Awards the last place you'd want to show of Prince of Persia, which has created a brand new story with original characters instead of putting the focus on the actual game(s)? I remember the original quite vividly, even after nearly 20 years. I don't care one way or the other, because I think video game movies should be good movies first and pay homage later. But gamers, I thought, had some problem with the Bruckheimerization of Prince of Persia.
There is speculation, naturally, that this could be the first great video game flick. Could be. It will certainly be the first blockbuster video game movie since the first Lara Croft. I wouldn't bet that it's going to be great. Fun, probably. But I'm not holding my breath that everything is going to line up in its favor.

The problem with that movie is the actual gimmick... if you have something that can turn back time everything becomes less dramatic because you can turn back time and erase what happened. I wonder how many times they go back.
