Nine director Rob Marshall has messed around in the world of traditional narrative film before, with Memoirs of a Geisha, an exceedingly beautiful picture to look at, but not a tremendously involving one. However, Pirates of the Caribbean brings with it a different set of expectations.

Marshall was, for some, a surprise choice for the fourth movie, which won't include Keira Knightley and/or Orlando Bloom, two losses the franchise can easily overcome. But Marshall tells ComingSoon we shouldn't count our pirate chickens just yet.

"We're still trying to figure out if it's going to all happen," he said. "If it happens - I think Johnny's doing [The Tourist] with Angelina Jolie in the spring - so if it happens, we'll start in the summer, and we'll see. I'm excited. If it happens, it happens. I'd be thrilled. I just love Johnny and I'm excited about the genre."we know the film would be based on the 1987 book On Stranger Tides, refitted to the world of Captain Jack Sparrow. But Marshall contends the script itself has not been finished. "I would need a script first. It all comes from the script and the story. You serve the story and you find out what the story is and then you work from there, that's it. It's simple." He is, of course, completely right about that. It is all story. A movie doesn't need a great, original journey, but it needs to be enough to give your characters room to grow. The first Pirates had that, Marshall's Chicago had it, too, and that's why I'm not wringing my hands about the selection. Disney has maintained that the new Pirates movie would necessarily be more lo-fi than the Gore Verbinski sequels, and that should be exciting. But how much Captain Jack is too much?

there was too much jack sparrow last time total boredom for an hour inthe middle orlando and keira saved thev day inthe last 20 minutes, jacks day is over it was over in the last picture a dead sparrow a plucked chicken take you pick without its emsemble cast forget it now
The "Sparrow only-movie" would be boring. Also, it would be not fair towards the fans of Will and Elizabeth. To watch how Mr. Depp is running around making big bucks while people who made the huge input into POTC franchise being successful is not in the movie is NOT fun to me. There are fans of Depp, there are fans of Bloom and there are fans of Knightly. I wonder why some people are trying hard to ignore that?
To answer the question: "How much Captain Jack is too much?" - Just watch the scene with "many Sparrows" - the actor didn't pull it. At all. It was boring, too long, flat and all those "Sparrows" were the same...Depp. So the answer is: it is too much of Sparrow already.
