Saturday, December 19, 2009 at 6:39AM Dueling Top Ten Lists From 'Entertainment Weekly'
We'll unveil our end-of-they-year list pretty soon, Monday at the latest. The sticking point for me is not at
the top of the list or even in the middle, but those numbers eight, nine, and ten, because I'm not sure they really belong.
Honestly, I haven't worked it out past the silver medalist, so it could prove easier than I think.

Lisa Schwarzbaum and Owen Gleiberman of Entertainment Weekly had no trouble getting all the way down in the double digits,
compiling their best of 2009 lists while only sharing three films between them. So is it a better year when there's less consensus,
or does that mean there just aren't as many all-timers? Roger Ebert recently claimed this was the best year for movies since 1939,
but I think that might be forcing it a little bit.
Both critics loved The Hurt Locker, Up in the Air, and The Fantastic Mr. Fox. Otherwise, it's a crap shoot.
Lisa Schwarzbaum
1 - The Hurt Locker
2 - Up
3 - Coraline
4 - Up in the Air
5 - Where the Wild Things Are
6 - Fantastic Mr. Fox
7 - A Serious Man
8 - Big Fan
9 - District 9
10- Everlasting Moments Owen Gleiberman
1 - Up in the Air
2 - Inglourious Basterds
3 - Precious
4 - I Love You Man
5 - Food Inc
6 - (500) Days of Summer
7 - Fantastic Mr. Fox
8 - Girlfriend Experience
9 - Hurt Locker
10- Adventureland To me, each list has its strengths, but Gleiberman has both Inglourious Basterds and (500) Days of Summer. However, I Love You Man is way too high, as is Adventureland, so that kind of balances his selections out.

On Gleiberman's list I love you Man and Adventureland really shouldn't even be on the list, they were ok for that type of movie but not very good, but had major faults.
On Schwarzbaum's list I just don't see how how Where The Wild Things Are can be on the list, i loved the book when i was a kid and i even enjoyed the movie but #5 of the year... No.
both of these lists, IMHO, are problematic. It's hard to take either of them seriously.
everybody is entitled to their own opinion, and that's the triple truth, RUTH
