On December 25th, following a roundabout release schedule that saw the December movie move up to early November
only to move back further than it was before, Up in the Air will finally be in theaters. I would guess that, for a few
reasons, it's probably the most middle-of-the-road Oscar hopeful. You've got George Clooney, you've got a human comedic drama, and
you've got Jason Reitman, two-for-two with Thank You for Smoking and Juno.

When you look at the other potential major Academy Award nominees, Avatar may be too far-flung for some voters, while The
Lovely Bones too depressing. Up is a cartoon, Precious and The Hurt Locker are awfully gritty in their own
ways, Inglourious Basterds is not your typical Oscar fare, and Nine is a musical, which are usually appreciated, but
don't win that often these days. Invictus has that Academy Awards glimmer, but early reviews haven't been towering.
None of this is to say writer-director Jason Reitman went out gunning for Oscars; the pieces may just be falling that way because of the other films in the running. It's a theory, anyway. Now here's a quick new featurette featuring Reitman extolling the virtues of his leading man, and two of his stars, Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick chucking praise right back at Reitman.

I Think up in the air will win this year's oscar because of reitman's overall movie making record. He's had just misses in each of his other two attempts and i think in this weak year of great movies, Up in the air has the best broad reach in audience, plus it deals with the most current problem in America, job loss. So i think because of all that it will win, But i think The Hurt Locker will be right there with it once all the voters either see it for the first time through screeners, or get their minds refreshed from its early release
I think this will be the order for the top ten movies this year:
1. Up in the Air
2. the Hurt Locker
3. Invictus
4. Precious
5. An Education
6. Nine
7. Up
8. A Serious Man
9. Avatar
10. Inglorious Basterds
