Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 12:17PM Box Office - $16 Million More for 'Avatar' on Monday
According to The Numbers, Avatar slipped only 34% on Monday - roughly 25 to 30% less than a typical new number one from Sunday to Monday - to take in another $16.4 million. The total is now over $93 million.

How high can it go? It's too early to tell. Personally, I like to wait until the second weekend to see what impact new competition has on a film as well as how wide-reaching the buzz really is. Make no mistake: There is a lot of competition for Avatar in the next couple months, when movies almost always make 75 - 80% of their revenue or more.
No, there's nothing else in IMAX until Alice in Wonderland in March, but by January, almost all the IMAX revenue will likely be repeat business, so it may not remain at the percentage of the total gross it is after the debut weekend, which was reportedly over 10% of the domestic receipts.
But while $77 million on the weekend is about what we thought it would do, the Monday number is very, very strong. That could indicate a flourishing box office at least through this week, when on Friday, Avatar will square off against Sherlock Holmes, and Alvin and the Chipmunks will steal some parents even though the audiences don't look the same.

Well, I have a few tips for everyone.
- If you haven't seen Avtatar, go see it.
- If you have seen Avatar, go see it again.
- Get Alvin and the Chipmunks on DVD instead.
The best thing that could happen to everyone is that Avatar makes a nice profit so that James Cameron gets to make another movie and we get to see it.
went to see it last night at the imax. sold out. will have to wait till after christmas. but should be less crowded by then too.
Seen this twice now. Going again Thursday morning and again on Monday. I love this fricking movie!!
I keep getting the feeling you are underestimating the pull and power of this flick.....stay tuned
