Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 10:03AM International Trailer for Ridley Scott's 'Robin Hood'
I'm squarely in Camp So Far So Good when it comes to Robin Hood, and that's saying something. After opining that no upcoming film had a bigger microscope on it than The Wolfman because it has undergone so many changes in the production, and someone e-mailed me to remind me that Robin Hood had a completely new direction, had changed titles, shifted Maid Marians and the time of the year they were shooting...and yes, that is probably a bigger collection of possible downfalls, especially because it's a Ridley Scott/Russell Crowe film.

But the first trailer, now about a week old, is really good, and assuaged most of my worries about a film like this opening in summer. Now there's an international trailer for Robin Hood that has new footage, a completely different tone (you can tell which one is intended for American audiences without being told) and does nothing to budge my previous opinion of this one.
However, I will say that while the US trailer seemed like one of those no consequences action movies, there's a lot more drama in the international version.
So there it is. Looks good, but I do wonder if it's the kind of summertime fare audiences will really support. It opens May 14th, so there will be big expectations along those lines.

I'm still waiting for a movie where Sam Worthington plays Russell Crowe's son.
Or either one of them plays Brett Favre.
Or one of them plays Brett Favre and the other plays Aaron Rodgers...
Well, Ridley Scott is a genius and my biggest hero in film-making.
But he's wasting his time and talent on too many staple variety films.
Robin Hood looks very good. A cross between Kingdom of Heaven and Tristan & Isolde, perhaps. This is logical considering their pedigree and not altogether bad as I really like both films.
But please, Ridley, you're 70 now and we want Bladerunner II.
Please!
