Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 10:39PM Peter Jackson Revving Up 'Mortal Engines'?
I've seen The Lovely Bones, and I have a feeling Peter Jackson can't wait to dive into new projects.
Kind of underwhelming, that. We know there's The Hobbit (and more people would rather hear about that, anyway) and
Tintin, and Jackson has hinted at a few other films that would have to happen several years in the future.

Now it's rumored that Jackson is bringing the Mortal Engines fantasy novels to a boil for a run at the big screen. The New
Zealand edition of Stuff tried to get confirmation from Jackson's spokesquad, and the word came back that "any comment should
come from Peter." Not a denial, certainly, but not much of anything else, either.
The books by Philip Reeve are post-apocalyptic, which is great, because if there's one thing we need more of at the movies right
now, it's the end days. Writes Stuff, "Cities have become giant vehicles and must consume each other to survive. Mortal
Engines is the first book in the series, and has won a Nestle Smarties Book Prize and was shortlisted for the 2002 Whitbread
Award."
Much like the alternative history novels in the Temeraire series, Jackson has owned the rights to Mortal Eclipse for a
while without moving forward. And he's also working on a remake of the WWII movie Dambusters, though what order these might
be developed is unknown. And which ones will he direct and what will only merit a producing credit.
If he's not behind the camera for the Hobbit films and might only direct one Tintin film, then the master of the shire
will probably pick up Dambusters, and spin some of these other projects off to other directors while taking a very hands-on
approach. And even if he doesn't develop Mortal Engines right away, Jackson has enough to keep him busy.
