Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 8:55PM Lame Trailer for 'Sex and the City 2'
Man, this looks weak. I mean, is there a story here or just a bunch of designer clothes? The new trailer for
Sex and the City 2 is out and they're clearly struggling to find something to develop. We should be thankful that Carrie
doesn't have a kid, because the Scrappy Doo Syndrome ruins everything it touches.

But here's the thing: Season one of Sex and the City wasn't great, but it was a definite step in the right direction. The
middle years - two, three, four, and maybe five - were quite good because they had plenty of character development and sharp writing. After that, the series slipped badly, and the first movie didn't add anything other than a wedding. This film seems to be ignoring the fact that
the show was popular because women could relate to the characters ("I'm the Carrie of our group, she's the Samantha," women used to
say) in favor of glitz and struts.
Now, for those of you interested in the Pat Field's trademark costume design, it's in fine form here, even if this property appears to have outlived its welcome.
The first movie made a mint in relation to what it cost, so the fact that there is a sequel comes as no surprise. But I thought they'd try harder than this.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. Looks unnecessary and phoned in. Which is a shame, because "Sex and the City" normally means witty scripts and raunchy, female-centric fun.
I'm a sad panda at what this movie might become.
