Thursday, December 24, 2009 at 4:47AM The Best Movie Posters of 2009
As we did last year, we're proud to present some of the
best movie posters of 2009 (in mostly alphabetical order). I've been a fan of posters for a very long time, but it's important to separate them from films, because
they truly are different entities.

Great films don't always have good posters and sometimes the best posters are for lousy movies. Of course, you could make the case
that a bad movie needs a good poster because the film can't do a good job of selling itself. That's also true of low-budget indie
films that have no reputation at all: The better the poster, the more it sticks in your head. We're not saying you should judge a
book by its cover, though, just that you should judge the cover of a book by its cover.
In the summer of 2008, we saw our first poster for Burn After Reading, which reminded everyone of the influence artist and
graphic designer Saul Bass had not just on movies but popular culture in general. His impact is represented a few times in 2009, as
well, but great design is great design, so I'll welcome those any day. A few films are on here multiple times, but only when
different designs are featured.

The rules are pretty simple: It had to be a movie released in 2009. There are some cool shots for 2010 movies we've seen, but just
so everything is organized in an easy-to-follow way, those will wait until next year. If you think of one we missed, drop me a line
so we can add it to the gallery. Special thanks to IMP Awards for having the best active catalog of movie poster on the net.

I'm just asking, what did you put into consideration to rank these posters?
