Unfunny Trailer for Kevin Smith's 'Cop Out'

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is the first time Kevin Smith is directing a film taken from another writer's script. That's a strange position to be in because by his own admission, Smith is a more valuable writer than he is a director. The film used to be called A Couple of Dicks, a play on the familiar name for detectives, but naturally, the studio got cold feet and went with the lobotomized title Cop Out. Having seen the trailer, the title isn't the only thing that appears to have had part of its brain removed. Smith has Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan as a pair of mismatched cops, and would you believe it, the black guy has a big personality and a bigger mouth while the white guy is a grizzled old veteran of the force? Well...I guess it's at least better than Bruce and Tracy Make a Porno. You may watch the trailer if you wish, but don't go looking for a lot of laughs, although you can see plenty of places where the laughs should be. Ugh. Cop Out will be in theaters on February 26th. Best thing about it right now: Harold Faltermeyer (Beverly Hills Cop) is responsible for the music.

Darn, Knives beat me to it.

This IS the first feature film that Smith directed but didn't write (I think he directed an episode of the TV show "Reaper" which he didn't write as well), which made me interested in what the film might be like.

Been there, done that unfortunately. I hear the movie's a hard-R rating, so maybe it'll be much better than this trailer.

Also...hate the name. I wish they'd kept "A Couple of Dicks", but I knew WB was going to puss out eventually.
