Monday, December 28, 2009 at 11:02AM The Washington Post's Top Ten Films of the Decade
These end-of-the-year lists are always an interesting read, and given that most people consider 2009 the last year of the decade, there are plenty of end-of-the-decade picks to go over as well. We're about two days away from publishing our own, so sit tight.

But for all the conversations that can be had about the best movie from this year, they're only magnified when you expand the playing field to include nine more years. So when you look at this new list from The Washington Post's Ann Hornaday, please remember how difficult this little game is.
To me, she has some strange choices at the top. Finding Nemo might not have been the best Pixar movie of the decade, and You Can Count on Me didn't shiver my timbers that much. But I'm not Ann Hornaday. There are, however, a couple titles we'll see a lot of on the end-of-the-decade countdowns, like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and There Will Be Blood.
1 - Finding Nemo (2003)
2 - You Can Count on Me (2000)
3 - The Lives of Others (2006)
4 - The Hurt Locker (2009)
5 - Y Tu Mamá También (2001)
6 - Pan’s Labyrinth (2006)
7 - The Edge of Heaven (2007)
8 - A Mighty Wind (2003)
9 - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
10- There Will Be Blood (2007) Thanks to Awards Daily for rounding up the list.

Lot's of good choices on her list and I don't have a problem with Nemo being in there (maybe my favorite Pixar) but You Can Count on Me and a Mighty Wind??? Out of all of Guest's flicks, Wind, by far and away is the weakest. Ah well, she's enitiled to her opinion, strange as it may be.
P.S.- a decade is measured by TEN years not 9, we probably should see 2010 come to a close before compiling any of these "lists" but, somehow, this point seems to be consistently debated.
Scott, 2000-2009 is 10 years, which is what they're considering to be the decade in review. Count 'em out starting at 2000...
yeah, yeah, I know, and 1999 into 2000 was the beginning of the new millenium....we agree to disagree.
wait wait...are these IN ORDER?!
2000 1 year
2001 2
2002 3
2003 4
2004 5
2005 6
2006 7
2007 8
2008 9
2009 10
thats 10 full years
the reason 1999 ---> 2000 wasnt the end of a millenium is that there was no year 0. but we do have a year 0 when talking about the decade. given that people name decades after what number is the the tens place of the year.
A Mighty Wind????????? I am a big fan of all of Christoper Guest's work (including those he didn't direct ala This is Spinal Tap, and not a mockumentary but some similar humor The Princess Bride). And I agree with a previous post. This was his weakest work. Best in Show was his best work. AND it was released in 2000.
There is a big difference between "My favorite movies of the decade" and "Best movies of the decade". Hey my favorite Star Wars movie is still Episode IV, but everyone knows that it was the weakest film of the original trilogy (hey, I got choked up when Vader threw Palpatine into the chasm. What can I say!!).
in this list you put one of my favorite movies, "Y tu mama tambien" I bet you that director of this movie was inspired by Generic Viagra, to other people that never see this movie, the plot is about two weed smoker youngs that decided to make a trip to a beach, in the process one of the cousin of the protagonist join to the group, together live different situation.
