Is this a reaction to G.I. Joe or something else? ThunderCats is dead as a movie property,
according to Collider. Warner Bros. has apparently cooled on
the idea, but since that studio isn't as immersed in the toy property updates as, say, Paramount, this could be a smart move.

I'm not sure how they were looking to develop it, and that could be part of the problem. If it's live action, it could look pretty
silly, even with effects similar to what were used in where the Wild Things Are. If it's animated, the studio may have
trouble selling audiences that it's something new and different.
The film was intended to be an origin story, and that implies that there would be bigger plans for the future, so if Warner Bros.
bailed, it could have something to do with trepidation about developing a two- or three-film arc.Sure, Transformers did very
well, but because of that, we're seeing a lot more ideas like this, and as Collider points out, there's still talk about movies
based on He-Man, Voltron, Robotech, and more. Tough to find your niche, especially if there's difficultly ironing out how that niche
will look to audiences.
Will anybody miss this? I guess we shouldn't write off ThunderCats completely; I think it's the sort of thing that could come back later. In
the meantime, however, I don't think I'll be too heartbroken over one more 80s cartoon not showing up in
theaters.

Of the cartoons you mentioned to make into a movie, Robotech would get my vote to make.
Look, even as toys, the Transformers are still out there on store shelves, even BEFORE the movies. Heck, there were even the Star Wars versions of Transformers. The others you have to go to either eBay or a yard sale to see what they are. They'd have to get with whoever holds the license to make the toys and reintroduce the toy line all over again. I think they're still smarting from "Speed Racer" which didn't turn out to be the generational cross-over they thought it would. This is a good sign that they're not just jumpin' on ANYthing for nostalgia's sake.
you know this really surprises me. After I saw Avatar I thought, ok cat people are gonna be huge, and while i didn't neccessarily think it was a definate or anything i thought about things with cats in it and thundercats was definately one of the things that popped into my head as something that would be pushed forward even earler to capatilize on that success. Guess not, which is a shame cause i was actually looking forward to that movie
Robotech, much like Evangelion requires a huge budget to do right.
I dont know how you put a story on Voltron or Heman that fits in under 2 hours and does not suck.
Thundercats origin story at least can be made to fit in the proper time period, but it to wil be expensive with no real hope of getting it paid off.
