How to Make a Lame Trailer for 'Train Your Dragon'
Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 9:55AM
I gave How to Train Your Dragon the benefit of the doubt with its first trailer. Well, sorta. I don't think Jay Baruchel is a great choice to voice the main character and said so at the time, but I thought some of the visuals in the upcoming DreamWorks animated flick were pretty good. Good enough, anyway.

But a new trailer is out now, and it's just bad. Worse than that, DreamWorks is equally insterested in reminding you that it's the company that sold you and your kids movie tickets to see Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and Madagascar. And the music they use here makes it seem like this film has already accomplished something. Way too regal for me. It's the right style for part of this trailer, but it's still a bit much, especially when weighed with everything else going on here.
There's a little bit of new footage, though, if you're interested, but suddenly I find myself less interested than before.

How to Train Your Dragon arrives on March 26th, and I kind of hope it gets clobbered by Clash of the Titans.

Man, I had wished that they would lay off the childish humor in this trailer and maybe try to sell the fantasy elements more, even though animated action/fantasy movies often falter at the box office.
The humor looks ridiculously lame, but the visuals might be cool. I'm coming around to Jay Baruchel as the main character as well. But man, did you hear that music/narrator of the trailer? It would've been less cliche if they had used the song from "Dragonheart" and started the narration with "In a world where..."
There are two reasons I would even consider seeing this movie. The first, and most probable, is that my wife, with her never ending desire to torture me by watching lame crap, will drag me to the theater OR ELSE (meaning she will withold sex for two weeks.) Or, she will just roofie my cheerios and I'll wake up in the theater to her obnoxious, snort-like laughter because she finds slapstick hilarious, thus being the second reason I would have to witness this abomination. Needless to say, I didn't get married for her cinematic tastes.
Okay, I jest. The animation looks quite good, and I actually like the way the dragons look. Unfortunately, for me and Dreamworks, eye candy does not make up for sophomoric sight gags. Really? I'm supposed to laugh (not once...but twice!) because these clowns can't ride dragons correctly? I mean come on! It's like riding a bike!
It will be great to watch Shrek, i have bought tickets from
http://ticketfront.com/event/Shrek-tickets looking forward to it.
