Johnny Depp as Pancho Villa?

In some circles the name of this new Johnny Depp project is getting trashed, but I kind of like it: Seven Friends of Pancho Villa and the Woman with Six Fingers. Variety indicates that Depp is in serious talks to star in the film, written and directed by Emir Kusturica, and he'll play the part en Espanol.

I think the title will probably be reduced to just Seven Friends of Pancho Villa because it has apparently secured the attention of The Sexiest Man Alive, who is also a major movie star. There's an opportunity to sell Depp as the revolutionary Mexican leader (and by sell, I mean tickets), so a cutesy title probably won't be allowed to stand in the way of that.

The woman with six fingers might be Salma Hayek, whose fingers I've never really noticed for some reason. She's in talks to co-star, although that could change just because Pancho Villa won't shoot for more than a year. I wondered how Depp would juggle everything he has going on by fitting this into his schedule, and the answer is that he won't. He's just going to plow through everything he has in front of him - including Pirates 4, we presume, and The Tourist - and then circle back to pick this one up.

I do wonder why there are apparently no Mexican actors capable of playing this role, or at least Latin actors. I guarantee there's no shortage of them who would both love to take a challenge like this but who could also benefit more from the spotlight.

I hear the director also really wants Paul Walker to portray Emiliano Zapata and Robert Pattison to play Pancho Villa's nemesis, General Obregon.

I can see this happening, it would be fantastic casting...but i do agree a Mexican actor somewhere out there is capable of doing this as well ...

Shall I nominate Michael Pena from Crash & Lions for Lambs fame, he was breathtaking in Crash, and has the look...

I sure hope mdamien13 is wrong about what he heard....

My Grandfather is standing in the real picture where Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata are sitting ...when they took Mexico City.

My grandfather's name was Anselmo Vidales. Born 1891 and died in 1928...he was 37 years old.

Three days ago I saw his grave site in Monterrey,NL, Mex. and remember the new film about Pancho Villa.

I want to take part in the Johnny Depps movie since now I am an actor and screenwriter.

SAG Eligiable.
