Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 3:12PM A Trio of Poster Designs for Ryan Reynolds' 'Buried'
Quiet Earth got its hands on three posters for the upcoming Ryan Reynolds drama, Buried. The Saul Bass fan in me really likes the second design, but that and the third one were both apparently rejected, sadly. The first one is not nearly as interesting, but it does show Ryan Reynolds' face (well, kind of), and that's probably pretty important to the producers.

The third one is OK, but of the two non-movie star face posters, I'd have to go with Option B.
Now, the movie is awfully claustrophobic. There's one setting: Inside a coffin. And there's one character on screen. Reynolds has a cell phone to help him out, and a lighter, with which he has to be careful because the coffin is made of wood. Director Rodrigo Cortés has his hands full with this one, but I guess the good news is there can't possibly be much of an investment outside of paying Reynolds' salary. I mean, how much do pine boxes cost?

The second poster is doubly cool because it not only has that saul bass design (awesome) but it gives you information about the film in what he has with him in the coffin... too bad they went with the first.
I like the second poster the best.
Is this film basically that scene in "Kill Bill Vol. 2" where the Bride is buried alive, except stretched out for movie-length? Because that sounds horrible.
3rd one sucks, 2nd one the best i agree...
The film seems stupid and an experiment rather than an actual film...
I mean of course I dont mind the single character that is an amazing idea, but like you said it is the location, the proximity, its in a box.....
I dunno well hafta see
the only thing i dont understand is im hearing he is the only one in the entire movie. he wakes up in the coffin and the movie ends when he gets out apparantly. Wouldn't there need to be flashbacks or something? Either way I have to admit it still kinda intrigues me
You may be right, Chad. Of course, that bends the rules of a one-room thriller, in which case, what's the point? There are a few other cast members - though not many - and at least one of them is listed as a voice on the phone.
first is the best.Because it gives the horrific sense, just what the movie is intending. The second looks more like james bond types. look at it! its hard to say the movie is serious and dangerous. just take out the title and see it!?you get a ocean's movie series bubbly feeling.third looks better than 2nd except the top black human figure is not required, just the white beneath would do! MHO
I am not sure I agree. The first poster could give nightmares to people who have never been claustrophobic. The tighter zoom on the confined space surrounded by dirt makes a horrifying impact. Unfortunately it makes me think I would not be able to bear watching the movie! The second design is very intriguing - you can not really tell what is going on but can decipher that the movie has something to do with a man stuck with only a few tools to aid him in his escape.
