Sunday, December 6, 2009 at 1:16PM Jason Reitman Hates 3-D, Not Psyched for 'Avatar'
You probably won't see Jason Reitman working with 3-D anytime soon. Of course, his stories wouldn't benefit
from it, anyway, but the writer-director of the Oscar front-runner Up in the Air tells Movie Retriever he's not a fan of even
watching movies in 3-D. "First off, I hate 3-D," Reitman admitted. "After about 20-30 minutes, I'm always like, 'Okay. I get it.'"

Unfortunately for Reitman, that means he's not looking forward to James Cameron's Avatar, due in theaters in two weeks. "I have to admit that I don't like the new Avatar trailer. Everyone likes the new one. It's the one everyone gets excited about," he says. "I'm like, 'I want to love this movie so bad.' I'm the biggest Cameron fan. I love every one of his films. I read all this hype about the new trailer. I went and watched and I was like, 'Oh. It still seems pretty goofy to me.'"
Reitman says he's "almost apt to see the movie in 2-D," which kind of defeats James Cameron's purpose, but he adds that it's because he expects so much out of Cameron that he was a little disappointed in the trailer.
"If it said, 'A new film from Paul W.S. Anderson,' you wouldn't be like, 'Wow. This looks like the best Paul W.S. Anderson
film of all time.'"

I'm with Reitman on 3D... I also am not a fan (but I do think Avatar looks pretty cool). I hate Imax as well which ruins the beauty of a widescreen projection. I remember watching Dark Knight in both formats and thought the Imax was not only a waste of time but actually looked worse as a big square. As for 3D, its a gimmick and should be left for gimmicky movies (like some horror flicks).
I agree. 3d is gimmicking and should have stayed in the 80s.
Expectations are high for Cameron...from everybody. I think even too high, but I still am confident Avatar will deliver...
Cant wait
He is jack ass his new movie UP in the Air despite good reviews didn't make it i top and he is also not future of the film maker he only make's low budget movies and nor he will get a chance like James Cameron to make a big budget . Reitman in his carrer is never going to reach milestones or make cool actions like James Cameron so he should shout his mouth.Let this movie release it will make it's impact .It's a James Cameron not Michale Bay crap action movie people got wait for the movie to release and then judge it whether it is good or bad.If a person who has watched the movie and hates I will respect his opinion because he has seen it and not go online talking about what annoys them about even without seen the movie in 3d that's all you fuckers who hate AVATAR.
Eeeaaasssyyyyy Joe!! Are people not allowed to have an opinion now?? I'm with Reitman on the whole 3-D as gimmicky thing. 3-D is totally boring and rubbish after 1/2 hour. However, I too am looking forward to seeing Avatar. I'm not a big Cameron fan, but I think he's made some amazing movies, some of which more than deserve their standing as classics, and I'm hoping that Avatar will live up to the hype and expectations.
However, as for you slagging Reitman off because he makes 'low-budget' as opposed to big Hollywood action spectaculars, big doesn't always necessarily mean better - and if you're a true film fan as opposed to a fan of big and shiny stuff, then you will know this, and you should also know that Cameron didn't jump out of the filmmaking womb and immediately start making big-budget shinies, he, like most directors, had to start somewhere, and that somewhere was small - and low-budget. However, I suspect that you probably fall into the latter category of film fan, which means, as demonstrated by your truly cringeworthy & puerile comment, that you don't take, or have. a very qualitative approach, as a true film fan should.
In short, it's not about how big or shiny the schlong is, it's about how you use it. And as a female, believe you me, I know what I'm talking about.
Kisses.
This from a man who regards Diablo Cody as a genius. Yeah, that guy has more credibility than the man who's made some of the most successful, and greatest, films in Holywood history. Jason, when you've done something that measures of up Pirahnna 2, much less The Terminator, I'll take your opinion seriously, kay?
