Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at 4:48AM Embarrassing: Leona Lewis' 'Avatar' Theme Song
Here's a line I wish I came up with, but it actually came from Vulture's Lane Brown: "Maybe It'll Sound Better in 3-D." The "It" is "I See You" by
British songbird Leona Lewis, which is apparently the closing theme song to James Cameron's Avatar. The reason that the headline is so spot-on is because the song is almost miraculously bad.

This thing makes you wish for "My Heart Will Go On." There is almost no symmetry I can sense between Cameron's movie, a self-
described "action-adventure fantasy" and this song, which has the melodic sensibilities of an electric garage door. The lyrics,
amazingly, are even worse. Since it's such a bad fit, I have no idea who this song is supposed to appeal to. Oscar voters, I guess.
That's another sore subject for me, anyway: Tunes going for Best Original Song that just happened to be Scotch-taped over the
closing credits. Shouldn't it have something to do with the narrative thrust of the movie somehow? That's another story for another
time, I s'pose.
In the meantime, please, give Ms. Leona Lewis your ear. If you dare.

I made it through a minute. Does that at least earn me a cookie?
your crazy... theres nothing but critisism about this song... cmon ppl... did you ever heard a full lenght of the song in any movie??? .. its always cut in some pieces and the imbeded in movie.. so.. dont be like that... unless you can achieve something...
You do know that this "action-adventure fantasy" has a love story as a central theme, with the lyrics relating directly to that? The title links directly to something said in the film. And having heard some snippets of the score the sound of the song fits absolutely with the "sonic landscape" of the soundtrack, rather than just a song tacked on.
I know that "action-adventure fantasy" are the exact words Cameron used to describe it in a new featurette, hence the quotes. The title relates to something said in the film? How novel. And even if it fits the sonic landscape (which helps), it's still a bad melody and crap lyrics.
What's wrong with the son? Can you do better?
I tried, but couldn't make it to the end.
I have no idea what she's singing about - she just mutters and hums nonsense.
If I heard this song during ending credits, I'd make a rush to the exits. It's just a new strategy to get moviegoers out the doors faster.
Completely agree with your scotch tape angst. Looking forward to that debate in due course. As for this Leona Lewis track, it's got to be front runner for a Razzie.
I guess you are all brilliant singer/song writers.
