Sunday, February 1, 2009 at 3:34AM Del Toro Wants to Direct 'Hellboy 3'...Eventually
“We’re three, four years away from anything happening—so I don’t think anyone is, you know, in a big hurry,” said Guillermo Del Toro when asked about a possible Hellboy 3. It's an interesting response, because it sounds like discussions have already taken place, if only to make clear that Del Toro wants to return to the comic book franchise once he's done shooting The Hobbit series.

The director tells Splashpage that he hopes Universal waits for him before they start making plans to complete the trilogy, although that may not happen. "I would beg them and amputate myself in order for them to wait for me, but I don't control it," explained Del Toro. But I just can't imagine the series surviving without Del Toro or Ron Perlman.

"If they say, 'No, no, no, we're going to do it,' I personally think this incarnation of the trilogy, I would love to finish because it's not arbitrary that we went into a different direction on the second one. I really think when and if you see the three movies, you're going to have a comedic one, a tragic one and you're going to see three movies that are incredibly apart in registration one from another. It's really exploring Hellboy in very different ways."If Universal does decide to bring the franchise back, here's a word of advice: Don't release it within a month of a Batman movie.

Hmmm... someone is taking a cartoon movie too seriously.
The lack of distance from the characters and subject is also what makes Hellboy a trial to watch.
Mr.Colin Boyd,
Hopefully, Universal learns from the example of Underworld. Taking properties in a different direction w/o the principals. Just think how different things would be if Fox had taken Star Wars out of Mr. George Lucas's hands and given it to a visionary young director to toy around with? We would never have the glorious Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. Hellboy and Hellboy 2: The Golden Army were Mr. Guillermo Del Toro's Resemu-builders that got him the Hobbit job. Keep Big Red in hibernation until he's ready.
Rootiing for Big Red while waving Rainbow, this has been American Wilson weighing in.
I loved Hellboy and Hellboy 2: the golden army. I think they are amazing movies...definately one of my favorites. Its a shame the third one isnt coming out for another 4 years!!!!
