Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 10:54PM Do You Want Another 'Blair Witch Project'?
After The Blair Witch Project was released in 1999, creators Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez revealed that there were several places the story could go. If I remember correctly, there was a direct sequel to the events of the film and then a couple of prequel ideas that went all the way back to the origins of the Blair Witch.

And then, they were executive producers of the absolute worst sequels (if not one of the absolute worst movies) ever made co-opted the name when Blair Witch: Book of Shadows came out the next year. Amazingly, that film made money, too, despite universal derision.
Now, however, Myrick says he hopes to bring back the Blair Witch. Only this time, it might have something to do with the original.
"You know how the economy is, but it seems like films that already have a brand and an established lineage like Blair Witch are the kind of films getting made, so we're hoping we can get it resurrected somehow.” Myrick told Rotten Tomatoes.
"Some of the ideas we have are more traditional narrative ideas that play with the mythology we've created around Blair Witch and what we really don't want to do is betray that mythology...I think Ed and I are most concerned with honoring the mythology."
With the way franchises, particularly in horror, are able to reinvent themselves, I'd say there's room for another Blair Witch, if it's done correctly. I'm glad Myrick is pointing to the original mythology, because that's where the action is for a sequel or prequel. But will audiences trust them this time?
