Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at 12:07PM Anger the Pope: Watch the Brand New 'Angels & Demons' Trailer
It seemed a little out of place as a Super Bowl commercial, and maybe that's why it felt a little underwhelming. Now we've got a full-length trailer for Angels & Demons, and it appears to have plenty more action than the first one.

Tom Hanks returns as Robert Langdon and Ron Howard is back to direct. That would be enough for a lot of people, since The Da Vinci Code made about $750 million worldwide. If this one is at least as good as Da Vinci, it should be in that same ballpark. However, everyone I know who has read both books swears this is the pick of the litter, so if the movie follows suit, maybe it'll make even more.

Incidentally, Tom Hanks still technically holds the record for the biggest movie star contract in history. We don't know for sure if Johnny Depp is getting $55 million or whatever it was up front for Pirates 4, but Hanks made between $29 and $49 million for this movie, beating the old mark set be...Chris Tucker. Seriously.
Angels & Demons will be released on May 15th.

Still looks a bit unremarkable and talk-driven. If the trailer gives an accurate picture of the film, I can't see it beating the Da Vinci Code.
After all, the first film rode on the success of the book with the same title, although most people were disappointed with the film. Angels & Demons is not a brand name such as the Da Vinci blah blah has become.
Tom Hanks is not worth the money as he was dull in the first one and not very faithful to the Langdon of the books.
Well, the new haircut has to be worth an extra 30-50 million dollars in box office alone, don't you think?
Well, the trailer makes it look a lot better than The Da Vinci Code was. Then again, the trailer for The Da Vinci Code got me all pumped up, and then the trailer ended up being more entertaining than the movie itself. Depressing when that happens. Although I do love a good movie trailer.
Anyways, these books are just so chock full of information that I'm gonna say Akiva Goldsman and Ron Howard did a pretty good job of translating it to the screen. I'd say it's pretty hard to make a decent movie out of just pages and pages of people explaining stuff about The Holy Grail. Sure, there's action in the book, too, but it's mainly about the information and the mystery. And there's just SO MUCH of it. It's pretty hard to narrow down, so I give them props even though I'm not a big fan of the movie. Although, I think I do kind of agree with Lengthy Johnson (there's a sentence I never thought I'd say o.O) in that Tom Hanks isn't really the best Robert Langdon. His performance was a little bit boring, but that could just be because the movie itself was rather dull.
Angels & Demons is really a more exciting book in general I think. So maybe it's translation to the screen will reflect that. And maybe it won't. I'm hoping it does.
And thank christ for Tom's new hairstyle...
Well, to be honest, it's not very hard to adapt Dan Brown's books into movies.
In fact Dan writes his books like a movie. They consist of linear scenes, which are visual and clearly defined in space and time and which all serve to move the story forward.
Dan has very little of the kind of internal, subjective content that normally makes books hard to film.
In fact, I'd say he wrote his books with the clear intention of selling the movie rights, as that is usually the best form of income for writers.
What The Da Vinci Code movie lacked was the very sinister streak that you find in the books. I don't see that in the above trailer either. Maybe Ron Howard is just too much of a nice guy to make a truly menacing film.
Wasn't a fan of the first movie, and not looking forward to the second one. The movie seemed to ruin the reviews of the book. I imagine that the second one will do the same.
As someone who read both of Dan Brown's books back to back as well as The Conspiracy, when they started talking about turning The DaVinci Code into a movie, I always thought that Angels & Demons was by far more movie material than The DaVinci Code so I am really looknig forward to see it.
Dan Brown Rocks! !!!
Can't really wait for May 15th for 'Angels And Demons' to find who Mr. Kohler and the Hassasin is.
Also I soon will be buying his third Part of the trilogy 'The Lost Symbol' coming soon in the stores.
Here, In India, the censor board has requested the Religious Heads (of Christianity) to watch the movie pre-release, and then suggest some cuts if needed before May15th. As if the other people don't have brains of their own.
'Hypocrite' - is the only word that comes to mind when I think of these people.
Well, Dan, there goes your Freedom of Expression for a toss.
Everybody knows that 'Angels & Demons' is as fictitious as and CANNOT be more fictitious than Bible or ANY Religious book of the world.
'Population Explosion' and 'Religion' are the only two major basic causes of Conflict in the whole damn f**king world. Solution: We should educate the people about the former and JUST BAN the latter.
Can't bear to wait for Brown's third book of the trilogy : 'The Lost Symbol'.
