Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at 1:03PM 'Inglourious Basterds' Trailer Finally Online
At long last, we get a clean copy of the trailer for QT's Inglourious Basterds, and it takes a little while to get going, but when it does...oh, daddy.

I still think two hours of this accent by Brad Pitt is going to drive me completely crazy, but this might just be the all-time Nazi-killin'est movie ever made. Among the Baterds are unusual suspects Eli Roth (the guy with the bat) and B.J. Novak from The Office.

Looks sufficiently bloody, though, doesn't it? Basterds come for Nazi scalps on August 21st.

God I hope this is good. I haven't seen anything from Taratino that I've really liked in a long time. What his half of Grindhouse any good? I stayed away from that because I think Robert Rodriguez is kind of a hack.
I agree that QT's films have been steadily getting worse and worse (however, he still offers films and filmmaking better than most with the Kill Bills and Death Proof) but its hard to go up when you start with such a bang, ie. Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. However, I think I'm more excited for this than almost anything else on the horizon (sorry Watchmen). This trailer looks great, I've watched it several times too many already and it's only been out a day.
As for Rodriguez being a hack, that's kind of unfair. I'm not saying he always makes high quality films but at least he does all his own shooting, editing and scoring (and usually writing). He's got a lot of talent, just compare Sin City and The Spirit to see what his sensibilities bring to the table. Eli Roth is the real hack, (the only he's done that I like is the Thanksgiving trailer) but even he doesn't seem like he's going to ruin this one.
I am looking forward to seeing this QT flick but Brad's accent( I agree with Colin) is going to be VERY difficult to sit through. I personally did enjoy the GrindHouse double feature. The fake trailers in between the two movies were awesome.
I heard that Brad Pitt was impossible to direct, which is what turned this Tarantino shock story into a parody of WWII movies. Tarantino was unable to keep Pitt from mugging around, which is why the opening sequence is so powerful and the basterds portions are just Brad Pitt with cotton balls in his mouth. That's what happens when you have an actor whose persona and charisma are so powerful that the tail wags the dog, meaning a director of smaller stature. My recommendation is that this movie be re-edited with Pitt removed and a substitute actor incorporated when the Pitt character is essential.
