Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at 9:19AM Michael Moore Wants You for His Bailout Movie
One of the best documentaries ever made in my opinion is Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room. You had a great combination of a truly American story of greed and avarice, archival footage, interviews, and, somehow, a villain that got away with it.

So when they make that bailout documentary, I'd like to see the same approach, and possibly the same director, Alex Gibney. That's not the movie we're going to get. Instead, Michael Moore is tackling the bailout, which will certainly give the movie a high profile, but it will also likely mean that Moore will throw himself in the middle of the events as he normally does. I'm not sure that's what this movie needs.
Be that as it may, Anne Thompson at Variety posted this letter from Moore's website to Wall Street workers, hoping to find people who are willing to talk about "the greatest crime story ever told." Certainly, in raw dollars, you could make that case.

Friends,I am in the middle of shooting my next movie and I am looking for a few brave people who work on Wall Street or in the financial industry to come forward and share with me what they know. Based on those who have already contacted me, I believe there are a number of you who know "the real deal" about the abuses that have been happening. You have information that the American people need to hear. I am humbly asking you for a moment of courage, to be a hero and help me expose the biggest swindle in American history. All correspondence with me will be kept confidential. Your identity will be protected and you will decide to what extent you wish to participate in telling the greatest crime story ever told. The important thing here is for you to step up as an American and do your duty of shedding some light on this financial collapse. A few good people have already come forward, which leads me to believe there are many more of you out there who know what's going on. Here's your chance to let your fellow citizens in on the truth. If you have any info that would help, please contact me at my private email address: bailout@michaelmoore.com.For the rest of you on my email list who don't work in the financial industry, you're probably wondering, "What the heck is this all about? I thought he said he was making a romantic comedy!" Well, I just can't say much right now. I'm sure you can understand why. One thing I can tell you is that you're gonna like this movie when I'm done with it. Oh, yeah...I don't follow the day-to-day movements of Michael Moore so I'm not sure what the romantic comedy talk is all about. However, when he sets his mind to it, Moore makes very entertaining films, with Bowling for Columbine being the best example of his work. So he can make a good film out of this subject, and he'll probably have more access than any other filmmaker could.

I'm glad to hear that Michael Moore is doing okay. After the injuries he sustained in Team America: World Police, I wasn't sure we'd ever hear from him again...
