Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 5:55PM Nic Cage Runs Around in a New 'Knowing' Clip
I remember distinctly my argument against City of Angels, which was, in essence, if a guy
who looked and acted like Nic Cage popped up everywhere you went, dressed in a trenchcoat, and
lived in the library, why in the world would you fall for him? Wouldn't you just run in fear?

Same rules, different set of circumstances, for this clip from Knowing. The premise is that there's some
odd numeric code that has predicted every major catastrophe in the world over the past half century or something. In
fact, that's where all this A-Rod news first broke. True story.
Anyway, Cage can read the code so he now knows when the calamitous events will happen. But what happens when the numbers
stop? In the clip, Cage is imploring people to get off the subway, and honestly, if a guy who looked and acted like Nic
Cage ran up to you on a subway train and told you to get out, would you?
Yes. Definitely. Just get me as far away as possible.
Knowing, from director Alex Proyas, opens on March 20th.

Well, if you have seen the Wim Wenders original "Wings of Desire" they deal with that "love story" a bit more intelligently in it. I always thought City of Angels had a nicer ambience to it, though.
I just wish Nic Cage could have let himself age naturally. His face lift is way too heavy and he doesn't look comfortable on the screen anymore.
But with his previous action man credentials, I would definately get off the train if Nic told me so.
Wings of Desire is much better. It's just the kind of story that Hollywood often has trouble with.
I know, the ending is impossible for a Hollywood movie.
But still, City of Angels is in my top 20 movies of the 1990s because of its slow pace and ambience. Meg Ryan doesn't carry her role, but when does she ever?
I forgot one thing. That look that Nic Cage has while he's an angel is the best way to dress ever invented. All black, ankle-length coat and black scarf. I still wear it regularly and it works wherever you go whatever you do, people will treat you well. You probably shouldn't stare like Nic did, but otherwise that is my clothes tip for all movie fans. Make the coat leather, also.
