Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at 1:04AM Sam Raimi Remaking Two Euro Horror Movies
A week or two ago, we ran a little story about Sam Raimi producing a horror movie based on teh Danish movie Room
205. The main focus of that story was that Raimi was shooting it in his native Michigan, and he might film some second unit stuff for Spider-Man 4 there, as well. Now we're learning that
205 is one of two new foreign horror movie remakes on his agenda.

In addition to the Room 205, Raimi and his Ghost House Productions will also bring back the 1987 Spanish
flick Anguish, which was written and directed by Bigas Luna. Variety indicates that for this remake, Jake
Wade Wall (When a Stranger Calls) is writing the script; no director has been named.
It's about a couple teenagers watching a scary movie and then realize they're in their own version of a horror movie
when a maniac in the crowd at the theater starts killing people whenever the movie's killer springs into action. It's a
self-referential bit of moviemaking, and it could be pretty gory in the remake, if they choose to keep the gimmick about
plucked out eyeballs. Yeah.
The other remake, now called The Dorm, is less adventurous. We've seen haunted houses before, and that's more or
less what this is. Again, it depends on whether or nor Raimi and new writer Stephen Susco (the Grudge movies)
turn it up to 11. I don't think setting the bar at The Grudge is a recipe for success. Might as well go for
broke.
