The First 'Last House on the Left' Poster

Could the entire horror remake genre hinge on the success or failure of this week's Friday the 13th? I doubt it. After all, these remakes or re-imaginings are all fairly cheap and most of them make plenty of money. We'd all like to see some new ground being broken in the genre, and while there are a few films that stand out in that regard, there are a lot more of these numbers. So short of bold new horror movies, let's hope that at least the remakes start exercising some ingenuity rather than all following the same pattern of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre update. Can The Last House on the Left make a go of it? It doesn't have the name recognition of a Halloween or Friday the 13th, so it's possible. Maybe director Dennis Iliadis has a few tricks up his sleeve.
