Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at 9:01PM Wachowskis to Reload Superman?
Why would Warner Bros. hire the Wachowski Brothers to direct its next Superman movie? There are many reasons why, fewer than there are reasons why not, particularly to the studio.

It all started on German television, and if I had a nickel for everytime I began a story that way, I'd be a rich man. James McTeigue, who has worked with the Wachowskis for years and directed V for Vendetta, was talking about the brothers' Plastic Man movie, which I'll never believe is a justifiable idea in the slightest. McTeigue is quoted by Ain't It Cool as saying on the show that the studio is shelving Plastic Man and re-directing the Wachowskis attention on the Man of Steel.
It's not solid, it's not concrete, it's not a done deal. But it's a really good rumor.
Now, why would Warner hire the Wachowskis after last summer's Speed Racer debacle? Joel Silver, for starters. Silver has worked with Andy and Larry for a decade, and there's no denying Warner Bros. got fat off the success of the Matrix trilogy. For another, Speed Racer wasn't as big a bomb as people think. It stings, no doubt, but it's not a Pluto Nash-level catastrophe.
Thirdly, and most importantly, there aren't many directors you could attach to any project and let your mind go wherever it will about the possibilities. Even though you could argue the Wachowskis have only made one good movie (maybe two, depending on your loyalty), if you're taking Superman in a new, darker direction, they'd definitely make the short list.
And if you saw Speed Racer, you know that the Wachowskis are as advanced as any director working when it comes to integrating visual effects, another key to the success of a Superman relaunch. Again, it's not a sure thing, but I think you could certainly turn a lot of heads in a real hurry with a signing like this.

Oh my fuck.
If the Watchowski bros are going to make this film I'm going on a killing spree inside the WB's hq. No shit.
Re-re-booting Superman is a tall order to fill, and I definitely think the Wachowskis can take a stab at it. But a true re-boot has to start at the beginning, with an origin story. That's why the new Batman franchise has been so successful, because it's self-contained rather than paying homage to the films that came before it. Not to say that Bryan Singer's take wasn't risky and unusual, because it was. Still, it sounds like he's out of a job now, because enough people didn't connect to a continuation of Richard Donner's 30 year old vision.
Let's hope the Brothers Wachowski (Far more talented than The Brothers Strause) make this more "Matrix" than "Speed Racer", and...
Start from the beginning!
PLEASE......GOD......NO..........
Speed Racer is amazing. I think I'm the only person over 12 to enjoy it but oh well. It's their best since Matrix one (and McTeigue did a great job with V). It can't be worse than the Bryan Singer Superman which is just awful... superboy, cmon.
