Monday, February 16, 2009 at 3:28PM Disney Goes Lego
One popular off-shoot of many recent films has been a very successful line of Lego products. Whether it's the Lego Batman game (tremendous fun, that) or the fan made Lego Star Wars movies, the Danish toy company has been able to reconnect movie fans with an essential part of their childhood, and it has made Lego very cool again.

Now Lego has
entered into a partnership with Disney, an exclusive licensing arrangement that will allow for recreations of
Toy Story,
Cars, and even the unreleased
Prince of Persia. It will all be available beginning in 2010, with Toy Story hitting store shelves first. Although, why a January release is better than a November launch, I have no idea.
Surprisingly, Disney has never officially ventured into the construction toys category before as a tie-in for specific films, at least on a long-term basis. And the move couldn't come at a better time. In addition to latching onto a growing trend with Lego, it also helps create more consumer awareness about its animated product at a time when DreamWorks in particular is gaining ground at the box office.
There's no word on whether or not Lego will have access to the full Disney catalog, or if it will be handled on a case by case basis.

The Lego-Master at the Chandler, AZ Lego store takes requests, so if you want Jafar or Iago, or whatever (Like Brer Bear! or Uncle Remus!) it can be yours, license or not...
Uncle Remus in Lego: Hot!
"Although, why a January release is better than a November launch, I have no idea." I would imagine their current agreement with MegaBloks doesn't expire until the end of 2009. My son has almost every Cars MegaBloks set they made. I wonder of LEGO can come up with some new ideas, or if they will just steal the MegaBloks designs for that particular line?
Well, there you go. Makes sense.
I can't wait for more news to start coming out. I did find the first pictures of the Toy Story set.

How awesome would the Reef set from Finding Nemo be?
We are building a website dedicated to all these future LEGO Disney sets. Not much there yet but stay tuned.
