The Rock's Quest for 'Jonny Quest'

Hollywood has been hovering over a Jonny Quest movie for years, and the most recent efforts to bring it to the big screen have worked. A script written by Dan Mazeau is a pretty hot property, making its way on the Black List of unproduced scripts in 2008. Warner Bros. is making the film, that much we know, and IESB sat down with Dwayne Johnson to talk about rumors that he was being groomed to play Race Bannon. To my surprise, Johnson talked candidly about the film, even though no announcement about his involvement or that of rumored director Andy Fickman has been confirmed. "There's no one else who can be Race Bannon than me. There's no one else," Johnson rightly claims, adding, "But right now, there are just a couple of tweaks and changes..." At issue is what to do with Jonny Quest himself. One idea is to make the character a few years older, roughly the age of, oh, Zac Efron, the studio's current pick for the role. But you'd lose an awful lot of credibility that way. It would be great if we could somehow get a Silver Spoons-era Ricky Schroeder for the role, but good luck. Maybe cast Amy Poehler? She could pass for a 12-year-old boy. Because we're supposed to get Jonny Quest next year, all of these things have to be sorted out fairly quickly. I love the idea of The Rock as Race Bannon, not so high on the Zac Efron idea.
