Cat Burglar No More: Halle to Play Jewel Thief

In a lot of cases, the best thing about relaying a Halle Berry story to you is that it gives us an excuse to show you a really hot picture of her. So, here you go: Now that that's out of the way, this Halle Berry story is actually kind of cool. Variety is spreading the word that Berry will star as an international jewel thief in Who is Doris Payne, a script written by Eunetta Boone. The film will span five decades, and Berry is perfect for at least three of those, just with minor hairstyle changes. The Oscar winner is 42, looks about 28, and could probably pass for a reasonable 50-year-old if you added some crow's feet or a prosthetic jowl or something. I'm not terribly concerned that she can do the job, and it would sure be nice to see her try more frequently. She has apparently gotten the message about Catwoman and all the rest, though. It wasn't a movie anybody saw, but she was great in Things We Lost in the Fire, and her upcoming Frankie and Alice will see her play a character afflicted with multiple personalities. Doris Payne is a real thief, by the way; she was nabbed in 2005 at the age of 75. Among her hauls during a life of high crime: Tiffany’s of New York, Cartier of Monte Carlo and Ratners of Romford. She would apparently schmooze salespeople at the stores into letting her try on expensive rings...and simply walk out of the store while wearing them.
