Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 10:11AM Fan Film Trailer - 'The Hunt for Gollum'
You might be wondering how such a movie can exist, but fan films have been with us for a while, and everywhere you look on the website for the brand new The Hunt for Gollum, you'll see that it wasn't made for profit, rather just to pay tribute to Lord of the Rings and the Tolkien writings.

I have to say, for a 40-minute movie with a production cost around $3,000, I don't think you could make a better product. It does look low budget, but not no budget, and let's face it: Three grand won't get you very far. However, I saw the most recent Underworld movie, and I can't say that the extra millions in production costs made that look any better than this.
Check it out; I think you might be impressed.
The Hunt for Gollum will be released online on May 3rd.

I'm a little surprised that the filmmakers are giving it away for free...I'd gladly pay 5 or 6 bucks to check it out. Hopefully the good people over at the Phoenix Film Festival have taken notice and are getting ready to add this to the Intn'l Horror and Sci Fi lineup this year. It would be great to do a Q&A with these lads...
By the way, $3000.00 got all that great helicopter work? I'm crying foul...
I wondered about the helicopter thing, too. Could've gotten that for free, though. Throw a name in the credits. Because it's such a specific shot, I doubt they had to be up in the air all that long.
If you're talking about the snow-covered mountains, that is not a helicopter shot. It's a special effects shot.
Also, the cost of the film is 3,000 pounds, not dollars. Still, that's pretty cheap--it's about 5 to 6 thousand, U.S.
