Monday, February 2, 2009 at 12:36AM Lionsgate May Buy Summit Entertainment
The Wrap (via Slashfilm) is reporting that Lionsgate is in talks with Summit
Entertainment about merging the two companies. At stake...not much, unless you count Twilight.

Seeing that now is the time to get in on some of that sweet teenage vampire action, Lionsgate would acquire
the rights to that franchise and Summit's other properties, which you can count on two hands. Or one, if you
have an extra appendage.
Clearly the price would be more dear now than eight months ago, but Lionsgate has been busy buying stuff
that doesn't make any sense, like TVGuide.com and the TV Guide Network, which we reported around Christmas.
What that price would be remains to be seen; Summit might have one of the most profitable franchises in the
industry if the Twilight sequel, New Moon performs simlarly. And because of that, you probably
won't see a number around the $150 million Universal just got for selling Rogue Pictures to Relativity. I'd
say maybe double that amount.
I suppose this means one thing: More Saw and Tyler Perry movies! Lionsgate has to finance these deals
somehow.
