Van Damme Wants More 'Bloodsport'

Bloodsport 2? Yep.

Jean-Claude Van Damme
managed to get through an interview without hitting on the journalist
, and confirmed
to Total Film
that a sequel is imminent. Now, perhaps you're well-versed on all things Bloodsport, and you
remember that there were already sequels. Ah, yes, that's true, but none of them starred JCVD. And he wants
to get it done the right way.
“We’re gonna do Bloodsport 2, which was my first movie. And I want to do it now in a very mature way,
where the guy from Bloodsport
is a complete bum, maybe abusing his son," offers Van Damme.
Two things: Bloodsport wasn't his first movie. I thought it was No Retreat, No Surrender, but there are a few things earlier that that. His first movie was actually Monaco Forever, in which he played Gay Karate Man. Tough to live that one down.
Secondly, for Bloodsport 2, one would assume there's some redemption for the character somewhere along the way. The studios he's pitched
it to apparently feel the same way. “They told me, ‘No, no, no! You cannot make a movie in America where a
father is abusing his son physically! It’s wrong," reports a somehow surprised Van Damme.
“And you cannot be a guy on drugs doing karate and shit like that.’ I said, ’Why? Why? Tell me why,’ the
Muscles from Brussels continues.
"It’s against the rules of success," explains JCVD. "But I believe the other rules of success. To show
something real.”
I have no idea what he's talking about. But I think his idea is based a little bit on the Rocky
Balboa storyline, where years later the fighter's got nothing and the only thing he knows how to do is
fight, so he gets back in the ring - or octagon or whatever - for one last shot.
I, for one, don't care if there's a Bloodsport 2, but doing it in a "very mature way" sounds lousy.

If your gonna be a prick, his first film was Breakin'.... or technically as a stuntman in Missing in Action - or how about the predator in 'Predator' for three days..
Wanker
I thrive on being a prick, and according to IMDB, his first credit was as Gay Karate Man.
I seem to remember a report on this site some months ago about a Universal Soldier follow up as well. Is that getting any traction? Or did it just turn into "The Expendables"?
Hahaha. I remember making fun of Van Damme movies as a kid. When they were actually relevant. But, I was still totally into them. Wasn't Bloodsport based on Frank Dux's actual experience? Why would Van Damme want to make a fictional sequel, making him an abusive Father? Did Dux even HAVE kids? Haha, JCVD is an idiot.. but, I'll probably see this.. if it actually makes it to theaters.

I think you're right about that Universal Soldier movie, though I can't remember who's making it with him.
