Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at 4:34PM Michael Cera Reportedly In for 'Arrested Development'
Finally, Michael Cera has agreed to join the cast of Arrested Development. Insiders tell Kristin Santos of that one letter cable channel that George-Michael Bluth will be on board when the film goes into production, more than likely later this year.

It seemed obvious to me that the project would move on without Cera if he kept insisting there was nothing to gain from a movie, and being a smart kid, he probably recognized that he'd be the butt of about three dozen jokes cleverly folded into the dialogue of the film if he had continued to hold out. Besides, doesn't he owe the show...everything?
At the Oscars, Ron Howard told anyone who asked that the project was indeed "looking good," but that he'd been sworn to secrecy about any details, particularly who was in and who was out. But now, apparently, nobody's out.
All that remains is whether or not creator/writer/director Mitch Hurwitz can write a hilarious, compelling one-off. Part of the beauty of the show was always how throwaways from earlier in the run of the series would come back to be much bigger factors down the road, and that's tough to re-establish after a four-year hiatus.
Another part of the beauty of the show was Portia DiRossi. But now I'm getting sidetracked.
In a way, a 90-minute storyline could be very effective, because it allows for multiple interwoven plots that can feature more of the show's characters. Of course, since Arrested Development was always an incredibly busy comedy, that should be perfect.

It'll be nice to see the brilliant Cera and Jason Bateman back together. Unlike their last film, I presume they will have scenes together.
