Anton Yelchin: Superhero?
Friday, February 27, 2009 at 5:20PM
I've been a fan of Anton Yelchin since I first saw him in Hearts in Atlantis. He was maybe 12 years old then, and it's always
strange to see a kid actor grow up, like Drew Barrymore in Poison Ivy. Even stil, I've seen him develop into a pretty good young character actor, as
evidenced quite well in last year's underseen Charlie Bartlett.

But I never saw Yelchin as a "movie star," and that appears to be where he's headed. He has a supporting role in Star Trek this May, and then he's in
Terminator Salvation two weeks later, hardly small projects. And now Latino Review reports that Yelchin is on the DC/Warner Bros. short list to play
The Green Lantern.
He's not their first choice - that's Ryan Gosling - nor is he option B (Emile Hirsch), but the talk is out there, so let's break it down. Well, Yelchin is
probably too young to play Hal Jordan, one of the many incarnations of Green Lantern in the comic and the chosen hero for the film. He's also a little slight to be a superhero, although if Tobey Maguire can do it, hook that kid up to some steroids and wish him well.
But the real question is, do you want Anton Yelchin to play Green Lantern? Even as a fan, I'm not so sure.

Just watched Charlie Bartlett in the last week...Twice. This kid is a bon-fide star.
"Star" star or just a really good actor? I don't get the "star" vibe from him the way I do Shia.
I see Mr. Yelchin taking the "Christian Bale" path to stardom rather than the "Shia" path. He is very enjoyable on screen...
Still, he could use a few cases of Mega Mass. Maybe his mom can give him a ride to GNC?
Like him, think his career is headed in a great direction with two sci-fi soon to be classics on the horizon, but he's no Green Lantern.
