Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at 6:50PM 'Slap Shot' Remake Gets a Director, Scorn
Because I am not against the practice of remakes in theory, I can't demand that they stop remaking Slap Shot before they even begin. But I still hate to see it happen.

The script for the remake of one of the all-timers is being crafted by Peter Steinfeld (21), and now they've hired director Dean Parisot, who is probably not a fair approximation of George Roy Hill. Parisot's last movie was also a remake - Fun with Dick and Jane - and because Variety mentions the nostlagia craze that accompanied The Longest Yard with Adam Sandler, I'm even less inclined to be excited about this. What is the minimum duration on remaking a Paul Newman movie? I guess we should be glad they waited 30 years, and there is a little hope for the production, since Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall are producing. They're not hacks. Also, if there's anything hotter right now than hockey, I don't know what it is. Playoffs on the Outdoor Life Network! Yeah!

SLAP SHOT needs to follow what I call "The HIGHLANDER Rule":
THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN ONLY ONE.
Love ya on the Mike O'Meara Show!
This is an abomination and must be stopped.
This isn't Nam. There are rules.
If they want to remake a hockey movie, remake "Youngblood". Leave the classic alone! Hasn't the Hanson Brothers destoyed the Slap Shot legacy enough by making 2 sequels??
