While there is still a lot of talk about the best
movies of 2008, one film we didn't get to see that was on a lot of radars
for most of the year is The Road. The Weinstein Company pulled
The Road off the schedule to focus its attention on The
Reader. So far, that gamble has paid off.

Still listed as "coming soon" on the studio's official site, the odds are
we'll see The Road at the end of the year, if all parties involved
think it has a shot for some awards. Until then, we'll have to make due
with production photos and hopefully some trailers sooner rather than
later.
The film, based on Cormac McCarthy's Pulitizer Prize-winning novel, stars
Viggo Mortensen as a father walking across the barren post-apocalyptic
wasteland of America with his young son, portrayed by Kodi Smit-McPhee.
The cast also includes Charlize Theron (pictured below), as well as Robert
Duvall and Guy Pearce.

If we hear anything on a release date, we'll let you know. As it stands, this is one of the only uncommitted films in the Weinstein stable, so I would expect to hear something fairly soon.

I've become rather obsessive in regards to any and all news relating to this film. Perhaps it is the beginnings of some twisted mania, but I feel it's justified. I love Nick Cave's work, both his music and literature (though he meshes the two quite frequently), and 2005's The Proposition is one of my favorite films of all time, therefore launching John Hillcoat into the realm of great directors in my mind. I am also an avid reader of McCarthy's, having read Blood Meridian, The Road, Child of God and am now in the midst of The Border Trilogy. I am so incredibly elated that all of these wonderful people were involved in this project and I hope it is worth the obsession. PLEASE Weinsteins, RELEASE IT!

It's pretty good how the boy resembles the mother so much.
