Thursday, February 5, 2009 at 4:12PM Pitt, Soderbergh to Play a Little 'Moneyball'
This project has been whispered about for a while,
and now it appears the adaptation of Moneyball: The Art of Winning an
Unfair Game will reunite Brad Pitt and Steven Soderbergh. Pitt has
been keeping an eye on the project for a while, and Variety reports
Soderbergh may speed up that process, signaling that it could be the next
film he directs.

It would be a real departure from Che, the four-hour biopic of Che
Guevara, and his upcoming The Informant with Matt Damon, because Moneyball is a baseball movie. Pitt has been discussed as the
choice to play Oakland A's general manager Billy Beane, who built a
contending team without the benefit of huge salaries. In four of his first
ten seasons as GM, Beane built American League West championship squads,
twice winning 100 or more games.
Beane relied on computer analysis to make his squad a contender, and in
2006, had one of baseball's lowest team salaries but still grabbed the
fifth best record in the game.
What form the movie will take is unclear; will it all be behind-the-scenes
stuff, or is it more of a baseball flick with a different hero? Steve
Zaillian is writing the script, which initially sparked Pitt's interest in
the project.

Glad to hear that Pitt isn't going to play Barry Zito, because I'm still holding out hope that he'll play Roy Hobbs in a re-imagined version of "The Natural".
