Friday, February 6, 2009 at 6:42PM Bruce Campbell on All Things 'Evil Dead'
Pitching his labor of love, My Name is Bruce, in the UK, Bruce Campbell was shooting from the hip about all things Evil Dead when IGN caught up with him. The Chin talks about the remake, a fourth movie, and the long-rumored Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash showdown with his usual candor.

"We actually had that five minute conversation with New Line Cinema," remembers Campbell of FvJvA, "and it went kind of like this: 'Hey, how about Ash vs. Jason vs. Freddy? 'We went 'Great idea - Ash can kill them both, right?'"
"And they went, 'Well, actually you can't kill either one of them.' And it was 'click'. That's how long the phone call went for." Campbell says it made no business sense to bring the three characters together because of New Line's attachment to Nightmare on Elm Street - "you know it's going to get special treatment. And why else would Ash be in it unless he could kill both of those jerks? "
Bruce seems more open to a remake than a sequel, so long as the new film is made on the cheap like the original. "If that approach is taken, it might be alright," he says. "They can use some modern-day digital technology instead of cheesy garden hoses pumping blood."
An Evil Dead 4 seems unlikely for Campbell, at least for the time being, and certainly not without Sam Raimi directing. He explains how physically demanding the movies are, talks about how his current gig on Burn Notice doesn't give him much flexibility, and, rather practically, says another movie could taint the trilogy. Citing the most recent Indiana Jones movie, Campbell tells IGN, "You're bound to disappoint, and that's why I think we hesitate the most. The way to ruin the other three movies is to make a really bad part four, one that just sucked."
"We'd work for two years making that movie, working our asses off, then people would watch it and go 'It's OK, but not as good as Army of Darkness.' I know it, I just know it."
