'Milk,' 'Slumdog,' 'Bashir' Win Writers Guild Awards
Sunday, February 8, 2009 at 1:23AM
The Writers Guild of America, which last year was on strike at this time, has announced its screenplay winners for 2008, and there's not much of a surprise in any of the three categories.

Dustin Lance Black picked up the trophy for his script for Gus Van Sant's Milk. The other nominees for Best Original Screenplay were Burn After Reading, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, The Visitor, and The Wrestler.
Slumdog Millionaire, the heavy favorite to dominate the Academy Awards won a WGA award for writer Simon Beaufoy in the adapted screenplay category. Benjamin Button, The Dark Knight, Doubt, and Frost/Nixon were also vying for the honor.
The WGA also presents an award for documentary screenwriter, and Waltz With Bashir picked up the year's top prize for writing in that field, over Boogie Man: The Lee Atwar Story, Chicago 10, Fuel, and Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson.
TV and video game awards were also awarded this weekend by the Writers Guild; check the official site for all the winners and nominees.
