'Street Fighter' Rockin' a Zero at Rotten Tomatoes

Though I doubt it will ultimately go down as the worst movie of 2009, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li is certainly building a resume that fits the bill. We figured it would be bad, and it is, laughably so, and the box office numbers confirm it's probably going to be a dismal commercial failure, as well.

A cursory glance at its Rotten Tomatoes numbers reveals something even worse, however. So far, only 20 reviews have come in...but they all pan the video game adaptation. Yep: A 0% rating, and this in a world where Fired Up! has a 30% approval from critics and even The Pink Panther 2 gets a 10% grade.

But 0%? Ouch.

Now, the average review, according to Rotten Tomatoes, is 2.1 out of 10, so there's plenty of room for something to perform even less admirably. After all, it's just the first of March.

We put this movie in our countdown of the AP Preseason All-American Trainwrecks of 2009, but we had Pink Panther as the worst movie of the year, and Street Fighter has less going for it than that piece of awfulness. As I said, it's still early, and we have another big batch of bad movies headed our way in August and early September, but for now, Street Fighter is our leader.

I'm not too terribly surprised at how badly Street Fighter is doing. I mean, 0% is pretty surprising, I guess, because not even the worst of the worst movies on RT seem to get it that bad. But this was one of those movies where even just promo shots made the movie look like it was going to be bad. Nevermind the fact that video game adaptations just don't seem to work too well in the first place. As pretty as Kreuk is, she's just not selling me tickets for this movie.
