Concept Art and Photos from 'Alice in Wonderland'

Tim Burton's upcoming Alice in Wonderland will fill a void in my moviegoing life. That sounds incredibly hyperbolic - especially for someone who might better be described as hypobolic - but Alice in Wonderland is one of those projects that should spawn a new film version every 20 or 30 years.

The visual landscape of motion pictures is always changing and progressing, and now we're going to get a version in 3-D with computer animation from a director who is clearly cut out for the material and has the ability to get the Hollywood equivalent of The Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) to play The Mad Hatter.

It's been 50 years since an Alice movie has been in theaters, and the same goes for A Tale of Two Cities, which is jumping up and down and screaming for a remake. But Burton's new vision will hit theaters in 2010, and even if I'm ambivalent about Tim Burton in general these days (hypobole), I think we're long overdue for this film.

D23, Disney's brand new quarterly magazine and fan community (available to you at the low, low price of $75 a year), has the first official concept art images and production photos from the film featuring the new Alice (Mia Wasikowska). Depp's Mad Hatter remains something of a closely guarded secret, I guess.

The fan forum The Tim Burton Collective was kind enough to scan these photos from the magazine, as well as several others, so we can all see what awaits us down the 3-D rabbit hole.

Alice in Wonderland will be here in just under a year, arriving in theaters on March 5, 2010.

Well put. This movie was long overdue for a re-make and what better human being to hold the reigns than one who sees in a very non-human sort of way. A year is quite a long time to wait, but we still have the Tim Burton produced '9' coming out in 6 months and we can only hope for some great cinematic work in theaters this summer. The photos look beautiful and I expect Mr. Depp to be a top hatted and slightly more deranged looking character than Mr. Wonka, but there will certainly be similarities. And so we wait...

Alice in Wonderland- A New Look
Jessica Rosario-Artist
jessicarosario.com

If you like the traditional Tim Burton or even Disney’s version of “Alice in Wonderland” you’ll love this Artist and her website! Jessica’s work makes you think about what it would be like to go down the rabbit hole and to encounter these eerie alien-like characters.
Her work is hypnotic, stare into the eyes of Jessica Rosario’s portraits long enough, and you're bound to feel both completely mesmerized and completely spooked. Her subjects haunt the viewer from inside the image as if they were hiding some terrible secret.
She creates scenarios of isolation and distance that occur in an ambiguous time and space, with a focus on the interaction between characters and the suggestion of narrative. The artist executes her compositions using a combination of photography and digital manipulation. Props and vintage costumes are carefully selected, as are her subjects.
Remarkably captivating yet exceedingly eerie, and to think these are all self portraits!
