Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 10:00PM Stephen King's 'It' Coming to a Theater Near You
Stephen King's It will be adapted into a feature film by Dave Kajganich, says
The Hollywood Reporter. The story received the TV miniseries
treatment back in 1990, starring Tim Curry as the sadistic clown, Pennywise. The cast also included Tim Reid, John Ritter, Annette
O'Toole, and Richard Thomas.

This isn't Kajganich's first run at King; he's also adapting Pet Semetary for its upcoming remake. He also
is the writer of record on the Escape from New York remake and the 2007 flop, The Invasion.
The book is one of King's more effective horror stories, and the creepy clown is a great touch, of course. The
Reporter indicates that the rights to the novel have bounced around over the years, eventually winding up with
Vertigo Entertainment and Lin Pictures, who will produce the project for Warner Bros. There's no director attached
yet, and it's obviously too early to be discussing the cast.
There are certainly going to be detractors, but I think this is a good pick up. I do wonder about how much depth
can be conveyed versus the amount of time you can spend with the material as a miniseries. On the flipside, there
are certain thematic and content advantages to doing the film as a theatrical film. I'd still prefer an update on
Dark Tower but for now, I'm happy to see we're getting another version of this book.

Well, it is tied into "The Dark Tower" legacy, so maybe the studios have banded together to bring us "the complete DT saga" much like Marvel is doing with the Avengers.
By the way, Stephen King took some interesting jabs at Stephanie Meyer's saga in USA Weekend a few weeks back...
