'Slumdog' Star Freida Pinto the Next Bond Girl?

We don't take the "movie news" from The Sun that seriously. I mean, they did say Eddie Murphy was going to play The Riddler, for crying out loud. But this one makes sense on practically every level, despite the fact that somebody most likely made it up out of thin air.

The tabloid reports that Freida Pinto, the beautiful star of Slumdog Millionaire, has been invited to do a screen test to be the next Bond girl. To me, that's amazing foresight since the script hasn't been written and there's no director or even a timetable for the new 007 adventure, but she's ideal for the part in general. She has an exotic look, she brings enough name and face recognition, and again, she's as radiant as they get.

So while I could see it happening, I doubt that any of it has happened yet. True to form, The Sun again links Slumdog director Danny Boyle to the project, even though he's issued public denials about even being interested twice in the past two weeks. If you read the poorly-written article by Gordon Smart, the phantom fact that Boyle will direct lends credence to Pinto's imaginary screen test. There's nothing to the story at all.

But having said that, off the top of my head, I can't think of anyone else I'd rather see as a Bond girl right now. I'm sure there are dozens of potential candidates - and the rebooted franchise is two-for-two in the Bond babe department - and I'm equally sure we'll hear all about them in the next year or so.

Oh gawd, I take any bond rumor about as seriously as a Batman rumor these days. The only rumor I'd believe is that the Broccolis have approved yet another film...
