Well, it's no Hardcastle & McCormick: The Movie, but it'll have to do for now. 1980s machismo is headed to the big screen courtesy of a new MacGyver feature film.

Raffaella De Laurentiis, daughter of legendary producer Dino De Laurentiis, is making the project a reality, and though you might think you'd have a hard time taking it seriously, that seems to be exactly what the producers and New Line want. "We think we're a stick of chewing gum, a paper clip and an A-list writer away from a global franchise," said New Line's Richard Brener.
And I think he's exactly right. The window for this movie is closing, I think, at least in the pop culture cycle when the Saturday Night Live spoof MacGruber is still funny, and it absolutely makes no sense to treat this like the new Bond franchise. The movie should be in on its own joke, or else it's hardly worth making the effort.
As Brener eluded to, there is no writer for the project yet, but what a fun script that could be to write. Lots of stuff blowing up every three scenes and you have a chance to make fun of the main character on the sly.
I say bring this one on.
