Monday, March 16, 2009 at 9:48PM New Trailer for Sam Mendes' 'Away We Go'
No doubt through a complicated medical procedure, Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes has had some of Noah Baumbach's DNA implanted in his genetic code. Baumbach wrote and directed The Squid
and the Whale, and since then, a lot of movies have used that blueprint. The proof is in this brand new trailer for Away We Go.

I jokingly reviewed last year's Smart People by describing how a lot of these Baumbachian movies share similar traits:
The male lead grows out a beard, wears a courdoroy jacket, and drives a beat up Volvo, and there's always that anonymous
coffee house acoustic soundtrack. And guess what Away We Go shows up? Yep. Exactly those same things, minus the
courdoroy.
I'm curious to see it just to find out if John Krasinski's appeal is limited to The Office and because I've
always thought Maya
Rudolph was really talented, so seeing her over the course of a feature film might be
enlightening. Otherwise, I think I've seen this all before, and I know I've described it all before.

Spot on Colin... I was shocked to see it's Sam Mendes because it has that distinct 'indie look and sound' and I thought he would bring more of his style to the flick than merely copying the most popular, albeit dying, trend in smaller productions.
