Natasha Richardson: 1963 - 2009

Actress Natasha Richardson, who suffered a ski accident on Monday and whose death was prematurely reported in some circles yesterday, has passed away in a New York hospital. She was 45. The wife of Liam Neeson, Richardson was injured in a fall on a ski slope at a resort in Quebec earlier in the week, although at that time, her injuries did not seem serious. About an hour later, the actress complained that she was not feeling well and was rushed to Hopital du Sacre-Couer in Montreal. She was transferred to Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City where she reportedly remained on life support until earlier today. Her family released the following statement:

"Liam Neeson, his sons, and the entire family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Natasha. They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time."

Ms. Richardson was a Tony Award winner and a member of one of Britain's most famous performing families. Her father was the film director Tony Richardson and her mother the legendary Vanessa Redgrave, and sister Joely Richardson and aunt Lynn Redgrave are actresses, as well. She is survived by Neeson, her husband of nearly 15 years, and their two children.
