I have been pleasantly surprised by the horror remake category this year.
Granted, we're only 60 days into the year, but My Bloody Valentine 3-D is probably my
guiltiest pleasure of 2009 so far, plus it has the best live action 3-D I've ever seen, and
Friday the 13th wasn't that bad. I'm not saying I had high expectations, but it still
beat them.

Next week, The Last House on the Left is the subject of Extreme Makeover: Horror
Edition, and while I would normally be very, very skeptical, it has a few things working in
its favor. As I mentioned, the genre is basically two for two this year, the studio is screening it for critics fairly early, showing a level of confidence in the flick, and the
trailers and TV commercials are pretty riveting.
I watched too much basketball this weekend, and the new ads for Last House were
everywhere. Take a look:

Perhaps one reason the remakes are getting better is because they're catering to the horror audience again. The Last House on the Left is rated R for "sadistic brutal violence including a rape and disturbing images, language, nudity and some drug use." None of this placating PG-13 nonsense. This one's hardcore.

Haha! too true!
I think a lot more movies are realizing that adults like adult films. (not those kind).
